My new home...

I moved on to base mid-July (the day before Mike left for training) and have been slowly trying to get things put away. I have gone to Missoula for over a week and brought my grandma back to help me with the kids. I also spent 10 days in Wyoming with my mom's family. All of that said it has taken me a while to get things put away and decorate. I was really getting tired of my white bare walls and so Laura Beth and Stacy came over on Tuesday and we did a little decorating. Since I have finished the BIG job and so I would share. I am sure that it is not everyone's style but I am very proud of my creation. It looks a lot better in person so if you would like to take a look, lets have coffee...

The traveler

I am currently in Missoula just hanging out. My best friend Sarah met me in Missoula for the weekend and a few days. We have had a blast together eating and eating and hanging out with the kiddos and remembering the times at EWU. We also went to the Mercy Me concert here in Missoula and it was great. We also saw Need to Breathe. Very good! I will post pictures later...

Just a little...

Well... where do I start. Our house still has not sold but we are somewhat moved on base. We got a base house the day before Mike left for training. It has been two weeks I am still trying to unpack, move, take care of the kids, two houses, two lawns, the dog, and try to have some sanity myself. Sarah is in a toddler bed and seems to be doing well. Cory is in his crib now and not in the pack-n-play in our room but he is waking every 2-4 hours a night. This mommy is sleepy! Here is a snapshot of the pictures that Christel took of our family. There are more here!

Flashback

The other day I was talking to my mom on the phone while I was sewing. I told her that I needed to get that machine serviced. She was explaining to me that she got that machine in 1981 or 1982 after my dad got a motorcycle. Not sure if this is the one that he got at that time but I ran across this picture and thought that I would share.

It has been really hot here and we have been staying at Doug & Stacey Bradley's while they are on vacation so that our house can be shown when it needs to and we can take care of their animals. I was just telling Mike that I wanted to go take a shower but was afraid that we would loose electricity. He gave me a strange look. What I forgot was that I was in town now where we don't have pumps. It is hard to break things that you have known for 20 some years.

Prayer...

Here is what is going on at the Glathars. Our house is still on the market. Please pray for a buyer soon. We have a base house for us but we cannot afford to move into it until we have sold our house.

Mike is deploying. He is leaving mid-July for training and then he will be back in October for a couple weeks. He will be leaving mid-October for 6 months.

Cory is being fussy and I am still not able to eat much that does not bother him. Sarah is being a difficult child to discipline. Not to mention I am sure that the stress that is going on in our house is not helping either of these situations.

Thanks!

Question of the week...

I am sitting here with a nice cup of hot tea reading my friends blogs and want to know... If I could serve you your favorite drink what would it be?

Bumps in the road

We are definitely in the training stages of Sarah's life. Lots of disciplining going on at the Glathars. I need some advice from you moms that have been there done that. I think that it is finally time (at 20 months) to wein Sarah of her pacifier. I am not sure how to do it and I am running into her stealing Cory's as I have not allowed her to have it accept at bed time.

Also, What about potty training? I think that Sarah is interested I just don't know where to start or what to do. Please give this mother some advice...

Cute cards!

How many of you have seen Susie's card example under "Got Stamps"? I really liked this idea and I decided to try one of my own and it turned out kind of cute so I had to share....

Update time...

So here is the news. First of all you need to go to my baby update page and check out the cute babies that have been born lately. Mike broke my camera rafting but I am still able to kind of take some pictures. I am praying for a new on of those soon too!!

Here are some of the flowers blooming in my yard. The lilacs, the apple tree, and the tulips (that one is for you Suzanne). Obviously my house has not sold yet. We are still living out of boxes. I am still praying that it sells soon but God knows when, where, and how much longer.

Cory is 4 months old today and is growing way to fast. Check out our family pictures for more updates on my kiddos!

For those of you who knew that I have been having problems with my back. Since I was first pregnant with Cory. A month ago I finally had x-rays and an MRI. My x-rays were normal but my MRI showed a tear in my lower back in a disk and some arthritis in my neck. I am going to physical therapy now and feel a lot better.

Not much else exciting. We have lots of plans for camping and such this summer. May is filled full already. Mike is taking me to Helena for the weekend and we are going to do some outdoors stuff on Saturday and then we are going to have dinner with my family Sunday evening. Happy Mothers Day to all you beautiful, spontaneous mothers out there!

Next weekend is Women of Faith in Billings. I am going with my mom and aunt this year. Hopefully Cory will cooperate with me. I am sure that Mike will have lots of plans for Memorial Day weekend but that is to come later.

I hope and pray that you all are doing well...

signing off...

Spring fever...

I obviously have spring fever. I have flowers on my mind. I love flowers. Daisies are one one of my favorites. I also really like hydrangeas. I really don't know what it is about these flowers that I really like but I think that they are clean and crisp and they just bring cheer to my face. What is your favorite flower and why?

Living today as if it were your last....

I have been thinking for a few weeks now how I am living my day today as if it were my last. We are not promised tomorrow but we always make plans. Now if we really lived like that there would be a lot of people that would not work and we would not accomplish a whole lot but we are called to be in the work place to spread the Gospel of Christ. How are you living your life today as if it were your last? You are not promised tomorrow. Like the massacre and just doing your daily routine and getting killed. Or in a car accident. Or getting cancer. You name it.... I am not trying to be morbid or negative just making you think what are you doing today for Jesus that would leave a legacy if you do not get tomorrow....

How true...

I read this on one of my friends web sites and really liked it and thought that I would share. How true is this...

Cindy Sheehan asked President Bush, "Why did my son have to die in Iraq?"

Another mother asked President Kennedy, "Why did my son have to die in Viet Nam?"

Another mother asked President Truman, "Why did my son have to die in Korea?"

Another mother asked President F.D. Roosevelt, "Why did my son have to die at Iwo Jima?"

Another mother asked President W. Wilson, "Why did my son have to die on the battlefield of France?"

Yet another mother asked President Lincoln, "Why did my son have to die at Gettysburg?"

And yet another mother asked President G. Washington, "Why did my son have to die near Valley Forge?"

Long, long ago, a mother asked, "Heavenly Father, why did my Son have to die on a cross outside of Jerusalem?"

The answers to all these are similar – "So that others may have life and dwell in peace, happiness, and freedom."

If you feel as though you cannot stand behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them!

Missoula we miss you...

Here are a few pictures of while we were in Missoula. We flew my brother, Cameron, up for 10 days and Eric came for the weekend and so we got a picture. Sarah got a new trike from Grandma and Papa. The mall in Missoula has a fun play area and so Sarah had a blast playing there. I got to do a little shopping and a little scrapbooking but it was really nice to be in a different envionment for a little while. Please pray that our house will sell soon. I am really tired of living in this half-packed place.

What Hat Are You?

As you can see I took the hat quiz that Amber and Angela posted. I am not much of a hat girl (nor clothes or shoes or anything really girly). I can't say that I have ever tried on a hat like this one. I might have to and take a picture. Not sure that I would spend money on one though. Have a great day girls...

Missoula...

It has been a while since I have blogged and so I thought that I would let you know what is going on with the Glathars. I headed for Missoula to see my parents and to meet Sarah here for the weekend. Mike left on Thursday morning for skiing in Bozeman with the guys. Unfortunately he got sick and did not ski on Thursday but he did ski Friday and then he surprised me and came to Missoula. Unfortunately Sarah was unable to come this weekend so I will have to make another trip to Missoula and see her. I have just been hanging out here and having a little time to scrapbook because my parents take care of the kiddos and even a little shopping (I don't like shopping but this is a good place to find the things we need). The Montana Shepherds Conference is Thursday - Saturday this week and so instead of going home for a couple days I just decided to stay here and I will go home next weekend. Our house is still on the market and we have had a few people look at it but no really good offers. Pictures to come....

Glathar Family Prayer Requests:

Jackie challenged us to pray for each other this week. Here are our prayer requests.

1. Wisdom as we sell our house and the blessing of the Lord to get what we need. That God will put the person that needs to be here.

2. Patience as we try to pack and anticipate a move.

3. God to work out all of the details for the transition from our house to base housing.

4. Mike's career. Where God needs him/us. Wisdom to know what to accept and what to turn down. Peace to flow when it is right.

5. Grace as we raise these two children.

10 things about me...

1. I am kind of a coffee snob. I really like coffee and I am really picky about the taste. Dunn Brothers is the best!

2. I like shoes.... on other peoples feet. I am not into wearing different shoes but Sarah has quite a few shoes for a 1 year old. I am always looking at other peoples feet. Here is a really cute pair that Julianne has..

3. I love to scrapbook! Thanks to Tammy I'm addicted.

4.I think I really have an eye for photography.

5. I have always been a truck girl.

6. Speaking of cars,I do know how to drive a manual. My husband says I know more about cars than some salesmen. Them mechanics don't push me over either.

7. I have butchered chickens.

8. Food... I am not picky. I will try just about anything.

9.Not roses. Give me a hydrangea or daisies.

10. I've camped in the snow!

Now, I tag Suzanne & Erin.

6 weeks old

Cory is 6 weeks old today. Boy how time flies! He is doing very well at nursing and is sleeping isn't so bad. He likes to be held so that does not allow me to get a whole lot done but I am sure that he will not want to be held forever. I am enjoying it while I can! While I was in the hospital with Cory I worked with a few lactation nurses. One of the nurses talked about this Dr. Jack Newman of Canada. These techniques and this concept really works. I have not been nearly as sore since I have figured this out. Also... check out the new pictures.

TALLY YOUR ANSWERS. YOUR FRIENDSHIP STYLE IS BASED ON YOUR TWO HIGHEST SCORES.
a. Soul Sister. You're prayerful and faith-filled. You avoid coming off as "holier than thou" because you're transparent about your life. Friends come to you for spiritual guidance and prayer, knowing your concern for them is rooted in God's love. At times you may grow weary of always being the anchor in your circle of friends. They're blessed by your spirit of strength.
b. Playmate. You spark up any gathering with your witty comments and prankster personality. Because you're sensitive, it may be hard for you to trust others with deep feelings. The way you help others play is a gift. You truly understand laughter is the best medicine.
c. Midwife. Others feel comfortable coming to you when they need a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. Patience and understanding come naturally to you. You're sentimental and sincere. At times you may feel depleted because you give so freely. You have the heart of a servant and nurture those in need.
d. Hostess. You know how to celebrate your friends and create new traditions with them. You have a gift for seeing how ordinary things can reflect spiritual realities. It can be easy for you to get stuck in high gear, unable to find some solitude. Friends appreciate your creativity, and often look to you to coordinate the next meaningful party.
e. Therapist. People cherish your perspective on life and love, and often come to you for advice. Friends may need to remind you of your tendency to overanalyze. Journaling, reading, and reflecting help strengthen your gifts of wisdom and intuition. Your friends benefit because you often know them better than they know themselves. —S.M. and C.M.

I am a midwife-hostess! What are you?

For sale, cleaning, sleeping, cracks, rashes and other things

For those of you who have been in my house and have not seen the basement here are current pictures of what it looks like. Mike has spent many hours making baseboards, trim, and molding not to mention sheet rocking and mudding. Now that the basement is all done (as far as we are going to do) we are putting it on the market. Anyone interested in a really cute house?

The Glathar family is still hanging in there. Now that we are possibly going to move I am having to try to keep the house clean all of the time. That is not the easiest thing and also try to get some sleep. Cory is eating every 2-3 hours and so I am rushing to get stuff done when I am not sitting in the rocking chair with a sweet little boy. Sarah woke up screaming last night in the middle of the night with a horrible diaper rash. They are treating Cory & I for yeast infections. I really am showering and bathing my children on a regular basis, honestly! As for the nursing, other than the yeast infection things are going well. I thought that the first month would be nothing but toe curling. I have had a much better experience than that. A few cracks here and here to deal with but nothing too bad. Hopefully the rest of you are having that kind of experience.

THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES

Laura Beth emailed this to me. I love my husband dearly but Mike in my shoes, just the thought makes me laugh. When I look at the list of all the things that I do, whether I do them now or I will do them in a few years, I realize why I get so overwhelmed sometimes. My plate (as all mothers are) is a little full. I have definitely had my overwhelmed days the past week or so since Cory has been born but I know that this too shall pass. I think of all of the women in my life and I just want to say that you are amazing mothers, friends, wives, cooks, nurses, taxi drivers, and role models.. not to mention beautiful and johnny-on-the-spot! The list could go on. Yes I am talking to YOU!

Here is a good laugh for you...

Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and 3 kids each for six weeks. Each kid will play two sports and either take music or dance classes. There is no fast food. Each man must take care of his 3 kids, keep his assigned house clean, correct all homework, complete science projects, cook, do laundry, and pay a list of "pretend" bills with not enough money. In addition, each man will have to budget in money for groceries each week. Each man must remember the birthdays of all their friends and relatives, and send cards out on time. Each man must also take each child to a doctor's appointment, a dentist appointment and a haircut appointment . He must make one unscheduled and inconvenient visit per child to the Urgent Care (weekend, evening, on a holiday or right when they're about to leave for vacation). He must also make cookies or cupcakes for a social function (with one day's notice). Each man will be responsible for decorating his own assigned house, planting flowers outside and keeping it presentable at all times. The men will only have access to television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done. There is only one TV between them, and a remote with dead batteries. Each father will be required to know all of the words to every stupid song that comes on TV and the name of each and every character on cartoons. The men must shave their legs, wear makeup daily, which they will apply to themselves either while driving or making three lunches. Each man will have to make an Indian hut model with six toothpicks, a tortilla and one marker; and get a 4 year old to eat a serving of peas. Each man must adorn himself with jewelry, wear uncomfortable yet styli sh shoes, keep their nails polished and eyebrows groomed. The men must try to get through each day without snot, spit-up or barf on their clothing. During one of the six weeks, the men will have to endure severe abdominal cramps, back aches, and have extreme, unexplained mood swings but never once complain or slow down from other duties. They must try to explain what a tampon is for when the 6-yr old boy finds it in the purse. They must attend weekly school meetings, church, and find time at least once to spend the afternoon at the park or a similar setting. He will need to read a book and then pray with the children each night without falling asleep, and then feed them, dress them, brush their teeth and comb their hair each morning by 7:00. They must leave the home with no food on their fa ce or clothes. A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father wi ll be required to know all of the following information: each child's birthday, height, weight, shoe size, clothes size and doctor's name. Also the child's weight at birth, length, time of birth, and length of labor, each child's favorite color, middle name, favorite snack, favorite song, favorite drink, favorite toy, biggest fear and what they want to be when they grow up. They must clean up after their sick children at 2:00 a.m.and then spend the remainder of the day tending to that child and waiting on them hand and foot until they are better. They must have a loving, age appropriate reply to, "You're not the boss of me". The kids vote them off the island based on performance. The last man wins only if...he still has enough energy to be intimate with his spouse at a moment's not ice. If the last man does win, he can play the game over and over and over again for the next 18-25 years...eventually earning the right to be called Mother!

Thanks for sharing LB!

Details According to Daddy

It was a dark and stormy night.... Well, actually it was just cold and windy. About 7:30, we were sitting around at home when Katie began to have regular contractions. So I proceeded to lose my mind just like I do when I try to pack for camping when everyone is ready and we want to get going NOW. Good thing Katie had already packed most of what we needed in a going-to-the-hospital bag. The only really important things I forgot were my contact solution and case. Julianne was home to watch Sarah, so we were off to the hospital.
We didn't do much walking in the halls since Katie was having contractions about 1-2 minutes apart, and they were getting progressively stronger. So we hung out in the triage room for a couple of hours, hoping to move along in the dilatation department, but without success. Katie had been at about a 4-5 for close to a week already, but no progress in the triage room. So they didn't admit us to the hospital, but set us up in a delivery room anyway. The nurse said that they were most likely not going to send us home, so we called Katie's parents in Missoula at about 10:00. As they set out through thick deer country in hopes to come and see their new grandbaby, the nurse gave Katie a shot that would ease the contractions and help her sleep. Four hours later, we woke up. Katie no longer had regular, strong contractions, and I no longer had moisture in my eyeballs. We walked the halls a little bit, but returned to the room and went back to sleep.
7am rolled around, and our awesome nurse midwife, Lisa, came in and checked Katie and still found no further progress. So she called for the epidural in order to break Katie's water. (For the sake of those of you who do not like needles, I won't tell you about the five times that they had to stick my poor wife in the spine - one for a local anesthetic, two tries at getting the epidural in, another local anesthetic in another spot, and finally a good connection.) So as Katie is getting numbed up and shivering like crazy due to the anesthetic, Lisa prepared to break her water. Having done that, we didn't have to wait very long until we were at a 10 and ready to roll.
Katie did have to push more than twice - for those of you who heard Sarah's story. Katie recalls the pain of the IV in her hand to be more annoying than the pushing. I wasn't brave enough to watch Sarah be born; I just held Katie's hand and stayed at the head of the bed. This time however, I had to know if we were having a little buddy or another little princess. So here comes the head. You might mistake it for a soggy Shar-pei. Kinda looked like a fuzzy little brain making its way into the light. It was the next push that I was waiting for, though. Pop! It's a BOY! Woohoo! I have my very own frogs and snails and puppy-dog tails!
Since there wasn't a problem with miconium with Cory, they set him on Katie's chest RIGHT after he was born - still with the leash on and everything. Katie was obviously overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. And all I wanted to do was run down the hall and tell papa that he had a grandson! I got to cut the cord again, and they moved Cory over to the warming table to clean him up, at which time he proceeded to send a stream clear over the walls of the table and onto the floor. Oh, yeah, I thought, I'll have to be a little more careful where that thing is pointing when I change the diapers....
They only had to put a stitch or two in Katie (praise God) before she was able to feed my little buddy for the first time - which, by the way, he is quite the little expert at eating unlike his big sister was. (Praise God again.) So, to contrast the story of the lengthy stitching process and wheelchair escort to the recovery room that we had with Sarah, Katie finished feeding Cory, ate a big lunch, took a shower by herself (supervised by yours truly just in case of course), even did her hair and makeup before walking herself out to meet the excited company whose noses were pressed up against the nursery window. (Praise God, yet again.)
Well, those are the details of the birth of Cory Wayne. If I were to continue the story I guess it would be the details of the first few hours of my little buddy's life. So I won't go into how the nurses were amazed at the amount of gooey pooey that Cory let go not once but twice before he even made it to his first bath, or how he took his two shots like a champ - just a squawk with the first one, and not a flinch at the second one. My little toughie! You'll have to get those stories from Katie. So there you have it.

-the Happy Daddy

Proud to introduce...

Cory Wayne Glathar
January 10, 2007
11:59am
8lb 1.5oz
20 in. long

We are finally home after 3 nights in the hospital. One of them being in labor and 2 nights wiht Cory. I am not sure how much you want to know. Other than we are finally home and doing very well. I feel good... I can't believe the difference between how I feel now and how I felt after having Sarah. Susie & Amber did not share their birth experence so I will not go into details either but I am amazed at the difference. Nursing is going well (for those of you who did not know Sarah never nursed and we had a really hard time in the beginning). I have learned a lot from this whole experience. Here is the real proof that God's hand has been with us the past couple days. When we went to go leave we were talking to one of the nurses and she said that she counted and of the past 11 births at Benefis 9 of them were c-sections! WOW! Praise God I am not one of them. Love you all!

Ideas for 2007

Cortney started this "What are your resolutions" post and I have been thinking about it a lot. Here are some of my ideas.

1. Make opportunities for at-home-mothers to get together to have some adult time. Such as planning days at the park or even days to scrapbook.

2. Stop just being a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants mother and give my children a little structure.

3. Scrapbook, scrapbook, scrapbook... this is a for me thing and I need that time to be creative. Not only with my scissors, paper, eyelets, and stamps but on the computer too!

Three is enough! If I had any more they would never get done.

Thursday Thoughts

1. Do you ever wonder what it would have been like to have a baby in the '20s? No epidurals!

2. Mike asked me this morning what I am going to do when I have to get up with two babies in the morning. How will that all work? How do I divide my time between two?

3. Is this pregnancy ever going to end? I am dilated to a 4 and still patiently waiting.

4. Will I ever get to finish these really cute scrap booking projects on my craft table?

5. How will Sarah adjust to this little baby?

I will stop and not bore you any more! Can you tell where my mind is...

Happy New Year!

For those in Korea that are long past the day... sorry! I hope that your day was filled with joy. My grandma reminded me today that it had been a few days since I posted. What have we been doing? Mike has been working on the basement (I will have to send pictures soon). We have the office almost done. He has spent hours in the garage making trim for around the doors. I have been fighting a nasty cold. If you have had a baby before you know those colds that just stay forever and just make you misrable. I am just in survival mode. I went to the Dr. on Wed. and I am dialated to a 3. I am learning patience. Please, Lord, bring this baby soon. I was reminded today of when Amber and Susie were talking about their 3am trips to the bathroom. Now it is my turn. I am having back problems again and so I am sleeping in the recliner in the basement and so my trips to the bathroom are long. Up the stairs and I have a shadow, Harley (our dog), that follows me every where I go... even in the middle of the night. Sarah is growing fast. I have heard that when you come home from the hospital with a newborn that your older children really look older... Sarah has these little chunky cheeks. I think that she is about to go through a growth spirt. Thats all for now! Pictures to come...
